Perhaps it shows through in today's writing piece.
It was late. I was driving home after a long week of sales calls.
Five horrifying nights in flea-bag motels and six fun filled days of meeting
with client who were too busy to talk and too cheap to buy what I was selling.
It didn’t matter that my product was miles ahead of our competition. People are
set in their ways and don’t really want to hear how great the alternative might
be.
But that’s over and done with; all that was left was the 4
hour drive home.
The headlights of the oncoming cars streamed past, a never
ending ribbon. Hundreds of other cars, other drivers, passengers, all on their
way someplace; maybe home, maybe not. I
wondered if I knew anyone in any of the cars. Probably not, but who knows.
I felt myself becoming mesmerised by the lights. The black
path of road ahead of me weaved with its twists and turns. I followed, as if
by instinct. My eyelids were growing heavy. Perhaps I even drifted of into a trance…
I was brought back to reality with the blaring horns of an eighteen-wheeler.
It was merging onto the highway from the on ramp.
A giant truck with a huge, foreboding load. The trailer was
covered with thick metal that extended well below the normal trailer chassis. It
had ominous deep purple graphics that were unlike any logo or language I had
ever seen.
And the speed, it seemed to be going faster than one would
expect a tractor-trailer to be going when merging. Much faster then I was
traveling.
I sped up to try to match its speed.
It kept bearing down on me, faster, closer.
With my foot to the floor, I spied a clear stretch on the
shoulder and pulled off, almost skidding out of control.
The massive machine tore past, narrowly avoiding my car.
I screeched to a stop, out of breath, terrified.
Happy to still be breathing at all.
I feel like this could be a great beginning to something.
I'll have to ponder and may have to revisit.
Comment if you wish.
Hope you enjoyed.
Cheers,
